Container terminal gateway for businesses

GLOBAL port operator PSA International has established its first UK container terminal in Great Yarmouth, which is now fully operational.

The investment is a joint venture between PSA International, which operates 28 ports in 16 countries, and International Port Holdings, a global investment company.  Part of the Great Yarmouth Outer Harbour site, the container terminal will in its initial phase feature a 200m berth at 11m depth capable of handling vessels of around 2,000 TEUs.

Future development plans will bring the capacity to 250,000 TEUs annually.  Significant investment has been put in for a new fleet of equipment, including two quay gantry cranes, reach stackers, container handlers and tugs.

A fully fledged terminal operating system will provide reliability and high service levels to its customers.  The small but flexible facility aims to provide competitive and reliable services to the Shortsea and Feeder shipping lines.  This will provide Great Yarmouth with vital sea links to northern Europe, as well as to the major trans-shipment hubs in Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Rotterdam for onward delivery to and from the rest of the world.

With this new gateway, businesses in the region will be able to capitalise on the advantages of the enhanced logistics network.

In particular, warehousing, depots and manufacturing industries can benefit by offering its customers the use of a nearer port terminal with increased flexibility in cost and services.
